Archant

My chickens are dust-bathing in my pots and destroying my summer bulbs! I’ve made alternative dust baths for them but they still use the pots. Is there any way I can stop them doing this?

Michelle Dunn says:

A good layer of pebbles will help, so long as the rim of the pot is high enough to stop the chickens kicking them out. If all else fails, stretch a layer of chicken mesh over the pot until the bulbs are big enough to fill the pot and hide the earth. Plants such as tulips, daffodils and lilies will grow through the mesh, so you don’t even need to take it off if you want your plants to be completely safe.
